  1. I wear the multi pack on every hike, too! My camera loves it.. On Whitney, I used it as my go-to food bag.

  2. TrailGroove, thank you once again for putting one of these giveaways. I was fortunate enough to win the Patagonia Houdini wind-shirt giveaway last year and have been utterly delighted with the jacket, which is now a firm favourite. I say a quiet thank you ever time I use it. Thanks once again Richard

  5. These look useful even when you are not in bear country. I can see thwarting the local raccoons with this.

  6. The compact size of the bear cannister is perfect for a solo overnighter. I generally carry the Bearicade Weekender for the small group I hike with, and it just about fills half my pack! Thanks for a chance to win!

  15. Sure would be nice to let gravity do all the work instead of having to pump all my water. Will this thing inflate my sleeping pad as well???

  16. I love this magazine and I am happy to support it. I have been a lucky recipient of a few drawings and have also been the recipient of the fantastic eye-candy in each issue. Now I must get busy and start catching up on posting some recent trip reports...trips I have been inspired to hike from being a part of this really nice hiking community.

  18. That Cuben hybrid circuit looks beautiful. I really love my circuit but as in venture deeper into lighter gear the less space I need. It is perfect for someone with a light kit though, and it's a perfect bag for a long stretch with no resupplies or cold weather camping. I plan to use mine in Colombia in the upcoming months as I can hold over 10 days of food with no problems.

  22. We are planning a second trip "out west" and we don't own a bear canister. We really needed one when we were backpacking last month in the Painted Desert. There definitely were NO trees to hang a bear bag from! Next trip, I need to have one! Winning one would definitely be superior to buying one!

  23. Even though we have black bears here in Southern Ontario, they're infrequent and hunted and don't generally associate hikers with food. I do practice safe hanging a la PCT. I'm more concerned about mini-bears (racoons, opossums, skunks, mice, voles, squirrels, etc.). A Bear Vault would be a wonderful addition to my kit.

  24. I was pleasantly surprised to see the BV450 as the prize in your giveaway as I've been contemplating purchasing one for my solo trips. I've owned a BV500 for about 8 years and love it! $50 at REI is ALWAYS welcomed! I'm crossing my fingers.................

  31. I used a 4L GravityWorks filter on several hikes last year and then finally adapted it to feed right into the bladder while it was still in the pack. Absolutely love this system.

  36. My luxury item is a book on a backpacking trip. I'm not generally one of the 'sit around the campfire' gang. As soon as dinner is over, with the sun setting, I head to my tent. I like nothing more than hunkering down with my quilt wrapped around me, and a good book balanced on my chest, lit by the tiny glow of my headlamp. While in my tent, reading and silent, I can hear the forest settle down.

  37. Luck to be near Harpers Ferry WV to be able to hike about in this area. There are trails for all types of hikers... C&O towpath for those with strollers, small children or knee issues- wonderful views of the Potomac River. Some times a bigger challenge is needed so head up to view the vistas of Weaverton heights or Maryland Heights each with a reward of overlooks. Or a bigger challenge head on the Flip Flop Hike on the AT- a dream hike for the future. Until then there are great Multi day hike from Harpers Ferry to Shenandoah National Park. Hint hire local shuttle drivers (www.rivertrai

  38. Is it cheating if I have two favorite trips this year? The first was just this weekend where a few of my girlfriends and I hiked up Kearsarge Pass in the Eastern Sierra of California. The hike was about 10 miles Rt and we gained 2600' in elevation ending up at 11,785'. We range in age from 52-67 and we encouraged each other to make it to the top. The second was hiking the Alps of Switzerland! Seeing the Matterhorn up close and personal, hiking up to sleep a night in a mountain hut, standing above a glacier so huge, my spirit was like an infinity pool..full to the top and overflowing.

  39. Aaron; Count me in, I just signed up for the TrailGroove Premium Member subscription. I really like the ability of being able to quickly download the newest TrailGroove issue. One of the best features of TrailGroove is the fantastic photography, and having a PDF file that I can read at my leisure at home, in my office, or even on the road is well worth the minimal charge. I was lucky enough to discover and sign up for TrailGroove back in early 2012. As I happen to remember, TollerMom was nice enough to welcome me, and make me feel part of the whole TrailGroove experience. The last 3 1/2

  40. Thanks for this review. I need a new pair of trail shoes and local stores never carry my size 6. I like to try shoes on before buying but may give these a chance, if I can return/exchange them for free if I purchase online.

  42. Good overview. I carry a mirrorless camera and started using a Peak Design Capture Pro to carry it. Stays clipped to my pack shoulder strap. Really easy to access. Not in the way. Wouldn't use it in rain or scrambles/climbs, but for backpacking it has been great.

  44. Another great giveaway! I bought the Helinox Ground chair last year as a luxury item for my backpack item. I loved it! I would love this version even more as it saves me about a half pound...and having legs on it saves me some gyrations as I try to settle in. LOL

  45. My luxury item is a camera and compact full tripod. The tripod weighs a pound but it lets me share the beautiful intricate macro details of what we see on the trail with other people who can't or don't get outdoors the way we do. I like to think this might pay dividends in the future for preserving and protecting our wild places because every heart that values the outdoors that we are so disconnected from in modern every day living has the potential to make a decision in their job or the voter booth someday. Thanks for offering such a great item for a giveaway! These chairs are really nice
