I'm originally from the East side of Missouri, so I'm really familiar with that area. My two favorites are the Berryman Trail and the Wilderness trail in Meramec State Park. Now that I live in KC, I'm struggling to find places. I have hiked a loop at Perry Lake outside Lawrence, KS a few times and it is pretty nice.

Where in the Midwest are you?

kwhowell;

At Perry Lake I assume you tried the Old Military Trail or perhaps the Little Slough Creek Trail on the NE side of the lake?

You can also hike the George Latham Trail (trailhead in Woodridge Primitive area) or the South Shore Trails (Rockhaven Park trailhead) both at Clinton Lake just outside Lawrence.

Others might include Hillsdale Lake (NE side, watch out for horses!) and Pamona Lake (Black Hawk Trail).

On the Missouri side of the state line you can try Smithville or Landahl, both ok but quite a few people use them for trail riding. Other than a few others, I go for the Ozark Trail Eleven Point area or the Irish Wilderness in SE Missouri.

Unfortunately, not a lot of great hiking or backpacking areas here locally.

I'm in St. Paul, MN, so I've not gotten down to Missouri yet. Sounds like you've found some great trails there, though!
