I do a lot of hiking in NW Montana {usually by myself } most are only 5-8 miles total but there is no cell service on 90% on of these hikes. I need some recommendations on the best 2 way radios I could purchase. Any help would be appreciated.

I am interested in this thread as well...

Unfortunately I have no personal advice or experiences to share as I am relatively new to backpacking. I have been hiking for years but am new to week long trips and would like to have some kind of PLB device in case of an emergency. I have been doing some research and I'm curious, what models have you been looking into?

A PLB would be great for possibly getting you out of life-or-death situation  but has no 2-way communication capability. The Delorme InReach has an SOS feature that transmits gps coordinates to a rescue service coordination center and also has 2-way messaging via satellite and allows loved ones back home to track your location.
