backpack boots, waterproof?

shopping for Mid Boots for backpacking. choice between waterproof and non waterproof. my feet do run hot and sweaty. Thoughts?

I think both are useful, but for normal 3 season hiking and backpacking I find that non-waterproof shoes are more comfortable and work better for me - in winter or if the snow has just melted out and the trails are a mess I like to go with something waterproof.

I've given up on waterproof boots except for hikes in snow. They don't breathe very well and seemed to be more effective at keeping water inside than outside, eg., after crossing a calf-deep creek waterproof boots stay wet longer.
