Hello everyone! This is my first time joining any communities for our wonderful hobby and really came here looking for advice. Im from Alton, Il but its easier to say St louis Mo. Im a pretty frequent camper but all my camping experiences have been in parks with lots that you rent for the night. As of late my Fiance and I are looking to step up our game and start going for some overnight hikes and overnight canoe trips but we dont really have any of the right gear for such things.

So here we are! looking for advice from you guys to help us in the right direction.

Welcome to the forum Steve! Good luck on the transition and I'm sure you'll be able to find any advice you might need along the way here. :)

Welcome to the forum. Hope you find lots of good info here. This is a great site for picking up tips and advice.  My advice is to go at your own pace. Hike your own hike. I've been backpacking for 5 years, mostly on short overnight and weekend trips. I'm still learning and figuring out what works for me.

Welcome!  I'm from Illinois also (but up north...).  There are some good parks just south of you that have good camping and hiking.  Giant City, Garden of the Gods.  Hope you find everything you need here!
