Looked around for a few minutes, good stuff!

We used to hike and camp lightly, nothing grueling or tough; except for the kids, that was tough.

I'm going to be prepping for camping, getting some gear, eventually want to do some major hiking, not sure if I'm cut out for it, but have always wanted to get out there and do it. So for right now, I'm getting ready; observing by reading your posts; will be asking lots of annoying questions; and hoping the forum gets a little busier since it is cooling off out there.

Ask away!  But before you ask too many questions, make sure you explain where you live and hike.  Local conditions make all the difference when you're hiking in the woods....or buying equipment!

North Central Texas is home and will be staying in the area mostly, until I get braver, occasionally venturing to higher elevations where it's dry and rocky. I don't plan on being alone.

That's the plan for now,  or I could end up hiking in Arkansas or Oklahoma, eventually.

Used to day-hike in VA, MD, PA with a partner.
