In the mid-Hudson Valley, 40 miles north of the crowded and bustling city of New York lies the entrance to the dramatic Hudson Highlands. These peaks constitute a segment of the 480 million year old Appalachian Mountain chain that stretches from Alabama to Canada. They diagonally span the mighty Hudson River here, towering well above the low lying hills and wide plains that stretch across the near-coastal landscape.
