Lisa, I'm 6'1" and splurged on Leki vario carbon. A bit spendy and the first pair Ive ever owned, lightweight and seem rugged enough. I've only used them on a couple trips this past March, backpacking and snowshoeing, they do work with trekking pole tents and are compact when folded. I do like the egg shaped grips better than other ones that seem more ski pole-ish. there is an aluminum version thats a bit cheaper. Good luck and have fun out there!

Hi Lisa,

I'm 6'3' and use Sherlock Tracks - about $70 each. It's adjustable and quite strong. The key for me was the camera mount (remove the wood top piece and screw it into your camera to create a great monopod). If your boyfriend is into photography, I recommend it.
