Mt Rainier straddles the Cascade crest with a dry continental climate to the east and the luxuriant moisture of the Pacific Ocean to the west. Recent weather the last few years has been perfect for this trail.  It tends to be really wet and fogged in. You need good navigational skills and readiness for wet weather.  Securing a permit is difficult, but walk-ins seem to have good success.  I spent a summer at Pack Forest down the road, and we were in the Park a lot. I really like the big trees at Ohanapecosh.
