There is a wonderful time of the year. The time when spring gives way to summer. When the high country is just starting to open up to three-season backpacking. The mountains can be traveled without skis or snowshoes and postholing is at a minimum. The first mountain wildflowers are showing up. And the remnants of snow? It just adds to the wonderful scenery...

It really is a neat little food item. Esp great if children are on the trip...or children at heart. :)

My mom used to make this in the midwestern winter.  Always good.  Just had to avoid the yellow variety as well.
